Resident Foils Armed Robbery Attempt, Holds Suspects At Gunpoint

A local woman foiled what appears to be an attempt to rob an area business on Sunday, holding the suspects at gunpoint until law enforcement officers arrived on the scene.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to the 4993 Highway 43 North home where dispatchers informed them a woman was holding two men at gunpoint.

When deputies arrived, the woman stateds that the men had pulled behind her residence and exited the vehicle. She told deputies she was in fear of the men’s actions, so she detained them until police officers arrived.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown issued a press release regarding the matter on Monday. According to the document, deputies, “Found evidence showing the men were going to make an attempt at armed robbery at the Dollar General Store just north of this residence.”

The suspects, Travis G. Carter, 21, of 410 Whispering Drive, Spring Hill and Freddie Currie, II, age 21, of 2756 Double Branch Road, Columbia, were arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without further incident.

Both were booked under charges that include attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated criminal trespass, simple possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Brown reports that detectives are working to determine whether the pair is responsible for a recent string of robberies at Dollar General Stores in Lawrence and Maury Counties. Maury County detectives are assisting in the investigation.
